Another global steel connection

A cooperation agreement between The World Steel Association (worldsteel) and the Russian Federation’s Steel Construction Development Association (SCDA) is expected to encourage even closer ties going forward.

Since signing the agreement in November 2017, worldsteel has been actively promoting Western European steel construction in the Russian Federation, particularly the positive link between steel promotion and the market share of steel frames in floor space.

SCDA’s role as the key promoter of steel in buildings is vital given the current, relatively small market share of steel frames in floor space in Russia compared to the Western European average.

In 2018, SCDA launched a programme to develop the use of light-gauge steel framing in buildings based on improved local design codes, education and promotion.

The role of worldsteel is to act as a bridge by helping SCDA to implement best practices, while sharing knowledge and contacts that support their mandate and, in the longer term, hopefully lead to increased use of Russian steel in domestic buildings.
