Trumpf Smart Factory wins German Steel building Prize 2018
The Trumpf Smart Factory has won German Steel building Prize 2018 (‘Deutschen Stahlbaues 2018’. It’s for the second time in a row that an industrial building is awarded with this prize.
This year’s winner, Trumpf Smart Factory, has a striking load bearing steel construction (a ‘Vierendeel construction’), supporting the gigantic roof. In this way the steel construction facilitates a (column) free use of the floor spaces.
Although on American soil, the Trumpf Smart Factory is granted the German award because two main project partners from Berlin are involved: architect Barkow Leibinger and engineer Knippers Helbig.
The prize will be presented during the ‘Tag der Stahl.Architektur’, the second day of the ‘Deutschen Stahlbautages’, on 12 October 2018 in Duisburg.
Bauforumstahl organizes the ‘Deutschen Stahlbaues’ award every two years since 1972.
