Tata Steel Nest-In has received the Structural Design Excellence Award at STESSA 2026 for the Zero Energy Building (ZEB) project in Bhubaneswar, India.

The award was presented at the 12th International Conference on the Behaviour of Steel Structures in Seismic Areas (STESSA 2026), held from 7–9 September 2026 at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi).

The steel-based Zero Energy Building was developed in partnership between constructsteel and Tata Steel as the outcome of a constructsteel working group project. The 1,836 sq. ft. (170 sq. m) building was completed in 3.5 months using Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) construction.

Designed to achieve annual net-zero energy use, the building combines passive design strategies, energy-efficient systems and on-site renewable energy generation.

The ZEB was inaugurated in Bhubaneswar in December 2025, marking an important milestone in constructsteel’s work to advance sustainable steel-based construction.

The Indian Steel Engineering Excellence Awards 2026 were established under STESSA 2026 to recognise achievements in structural steel and composite construction in India. The Structural Design Excellence Awards recognise achievements in structural engineering design, with entries evaluated on criteria including design innovation, structural efficiency, constructability, performance, sustainability considerations and the effective use of steel and composite structural systems.
