Steel Perimeter Fire Containment System

  • The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) of Korea enforces a strict Quality Certification program to evaluate the fire safety performance of building materials, including structural components, interior finishes, fire dampers, doors, shutters and fire containment systems.
  • In order to prevent vertical fire propagation through linear opening between floor and façade, steel-based curtain wall, panel, and perimeter fire containment systems were developed and certificated by MOLIT

Characteristics

  • Collaborative Fire Containment System Development
    – Developed jointly by HILTI Korea, Saint-Gobain Isover Korea, NI-steel, and POSCO, combining steel and non-steel construction materials.
  • Off-site Prefabrication Approach
    – Factory-assembled system based on :
    1. POSCO steel curtain wall
    2. POSCO spandrel panel insulated with Saint-Gobain’s non-combustible glass wool
    3. Steel and fire-resistant sheet cover
    4. HILTI fire spray
  • Certified Fire Performance
    – Test standard : KS F 2257-1 (Horizontal fire test 2HR)
    – F-rating : No flame penetration
    – T-rating : Max temperature rise < 180K
