Steel Core Wall System [SpeedCore]

AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) – United States

  • SpeedCore is a non-proprietary, concrete-filled composite steel
plate shear wall (CF-CPSW) system that enables up to 43% faster
construction than traditional concrete cores by using
prefabricated steel panels connected by tie rods.
  • These panels can support four floors of decking prior to concrete infill, enabling rapid floor-by-floor erection and forming a high-strength, sandwich-style structure that enhances both stability and construction speed.

Characteristics

  • Schedule Reduction
    – Ability to build four floors in a week, allowing for a greatly reduced construction schedule.
  • Cost Savings
    – SpeedCore’s rapid erection translates into construction cost savings and earlier tenant occupancy.
  • Strength
    – The SpeedCore’s panels create a unique structure that provides immense strength and stability.
  • More Flexibility for Adaptive Reuse
    – Facilitates adaptive reuse projects because the system is predictable and has no hidden reinforcing bars.
  • Eliminates Construction Tolerance Issues and Dimensional Conflicts
    – Steel connection plates can be welded directly to the wall panel, eliminating construction tolerance issues and dimension conflicts.
  • Safety
    – More of the construction process takes place under the cover of steel deck because its timing is closely aligned with floor framing. This decreases workers’ exposure to materials that might drop from above.

Applications

High-rise construction, as an alternative to traditional concrete core buildings.
