Overview

An innovative KG composite beam, a type of U-shaped composite beam, has been developed and implemented in this project. This advancement enhances performance and efficiency within our structural designs compared to conventional composite beams by allowing the use of steel girders not only for load-bearing but also as formwork during construction.

Basic information (construction date, number of stories, gross floor area, adopted design code, engineer(s), Contractor(s), etc.)

Construction date: 2023-2024

Specific solution/technical details

In order to overcome the disadvantages of steel structure and reinforced concrete structure, a new KG composite beam, which is one of U-shaped composite beams, was developed. The KG composite beam consists of U-shaped steel web using channels, bottom steel plate, and infilled concrete. The bottom steel plate and channel flanges are connected by oneway bolts. In this study, the flexural capacity of KG composite beam was evaluated experimentally. For this purpose, several beam bending tests were conducted under two concentrated loads, varying beam depth. The test results showed that KG beam has excellent flexural strength and deformation capacity.
