Overview
The Wave complex, consisting of two independent buildings, is being developed in the Oliwa district of Gdańsk. This is where the largest number of investments of metropolitan importance are currently being built – the place is to act as a catalyst for the development of the center of Gdańsk. Wave are two independent buildings marked A and B located in the north-west of Gdańsk. The facility is characterized by a rust-colored façade referring to the rhythmic composition of port container depots. Each building consists of fourteen above-ground floors, and the investment provides a total of 48,000 square meters of usable space.

Contractor(s): Industria Structure
Issue and/or innovation
The construction of the building required a quick advancement and the on site activities had to be carried out also during the winter months so a modular prefabricated system was the preferable option.
Reason for composite solution
Within the height and volume allowed by the city zoning the use of the composite solution allowed the creation of one extra floor of lettable area, thus maximizing the return on investment for the developer.
Specific solution/technical details
The slim-floor solution consists of a inversed TT steel profile with a bottom flange of 70cm and a thickness of 15mm. The space between the two webs of 8mm each is filled with concrete C60/75. The floor slab is laid on the bottom flange of the TT and consists in hollow core concrete slabs, completed with rebars passing through the composite beam.
Impact or effectiveness
The slim floor construction allowed the building to gain one extra floor if compared with a conventional concrete frame. Also, the building with precast technology allowed a fast construction system also in cold winter in Poland and no temporary supports of the hollow core slabs was needed as they rest on the flanges of the beam.
