Overview
The KIP-RC construction method is a composite structure in which the columns are made of reinforced concrete (RC) and the beams are made of steel (S). The purpose of the KIP-RC construction method is as follows:
1) Improved seismic resistance of columns: While RC columns generally have good seismic resistance, their strength may be limited during earthquakes. By incorporating steel beams, the seismic resistance of the columns can be enhanced.
2) Structural light-weighting: Using steel beams reduces the overall weight of the structure. This allows for improved seismic response characteristics and performance by reducing the overall mass of the building.
3) Increased flexibility of the building: Incorporating steel beams enhances the flexibility of the structure. This enables better control of the building’s behavior during earthquakes, minimizing potential damage.
4) Construction efficiency: The combination of RC columns and steel beams improves construction efficiency. The lightweight structure reduces the amount of construction materials required. It also contributes to shorter construction periods and cost reductions.
