Specific solution/technical details
The Greenland Centre utilised the refurbishment of the original Water Board building which was completed in 1965 and involved 24 stories of steel structure over a height of 101 m. The refurbishment involved reusing about 99% of all construction waste materials including 25,000 tonnes of concrete and 3,200 tonnes of brick. The reuse of the 24 stories of steel chevron bracing was then topped by an additional 44 stories, making it the largest residential building in Sydney.
Impact or effectiveness
This building is an extremely iconic building as it involves the refurbishment of a 60-year-old building, utilising structural steel from the original 26 floors and then with the addition of additional 44 storeys to make it the tallest residential building in Sydney.
