As we reflect on the past year, we at constructsteel are proud to see the progress our construction market development programme has made so far and the fruition of many of the initiatives we started in 2021.
To give an example, as a result of our work with Gensler on the design of a two-storey Zero Energy Building residential house, Tata Steel is taking the project one step further and is now working to bring this groundbreaking design to the UK market by constructing a prototype house that showcases the advantages of steel and its role in the circular economy.
At the same time, our composite construction efforts are reaching new heights as we delve deeper into the potential of steel-timber and steel-concrete combinations. In partnership with the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, we are working to optimise the use of steel and timber in buildings from a holistic, lifecycle perspective. In the steel-concrete area, we are working on developing a database compiling the best-practice steel-concrete composite solutions from around the globe, to make them readily available to our members.
Additionally, as part of our industrialization of construction workstream, a project has been commissioned to further explore the modular construction industry and how steel can play a crucial role in its development, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the construction industry.
In 2023, we will be ramping up our efforts to further grow our steel ecosystem in construction, with a continuous focus on effectively communicating and engaging with our stakeholders, as well as sharing knowledge. As for the latter, we count on the support of our newly established Global Advisory Committee, a group of steel-friendly academics who will continue to guide and advise on our various initiatives.
As we embark on the new year and the opportunities that 2023 holds, we are excited to share our new “Steel Solutions Platform” with you very soon. With this new platform, we aim to help centralise steel-related solutions by constructsteel’s steel-producing members and stakeholders.
Lastly, we are thrilled to announce that our fifth annual conference will take place in Seoul, later this year, and we look forward to welcoming many of you for a productive and engaging event. Details will follow in due course.
Finally, I would like to thank the constructsteel Vice-Chairs – Tabitha Stine, Jonathan Clemens, and Olivier Vassart, as well as the constructsteel team for their support and dedication, and in special, a thank you to all of our members and stakeholders.
Happy New Year!
