The rising concern over depletion of the natural resources and the impact of the construction industry on global pollution and rapidly increasing landfills warrants greater attention to sustainable development. There is a growing need for newer construction materials and techniques that are more environmentally friendly and support faster construction. This is where Tata Steel’s prefab construction solution brand, Nest-In, plays a role. It has been offering green and sustainable construction solutions to its customers in India, utilising various prefab technologies: Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF), Sandwich Panel, Hybrid & Modular Construction.

Over the last 4 years, Nest-In has clocked a CAGR of 50% in its order booking, thereby proving that there is an increasing demand for steel-based prefab solutions in India. During the same period, Nest-In executed more than 230k square meters (25 lakh square feet) of construction across India. These constructions catered to various applications like Hostels, Academic Institutions, Multi-speciality hospitals, COVID hospitals, Farmhouses, Remote offices, Amenity buildings, etc.

In 2023, India is focusing heavily on infrastructure development, and new prefab technologies like LGSF and Modular are in huge demand. Nest-In is promoting LGSF under the brand name, HabiNest, offering convenience, speed, and quality solutions. The structure is designed and tested in-house using cutting-edge software, manufactured under strict quality norms, and is erected on-site by its trained execution partners. The overall solution is designed to be more sustainable and save crucial resources like water, energy, and material.

Nest-In conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study on HabiNest building of 2400 sft. Upon drawing the comparison with an equivalent conventional construction, the results were inspiring. The same was also verified by Sphera (a leading ESG and sustainability consultant):

• 48% lesser freshwater requirement
• 26% lesser global warming potential
• 30% reduction in primary energy demand
• 35% lesser usage of material resources

At the end-of-life, the steel component of LGSF based structure gets recycled. Also, lesser material waste gets generated which goes into landfill. The insulation in wall and roof helps in reducing the thermal transmission, thereby leading to less energy consumption in keeping the temperature moderate.

Nest-In is leading the way in this technology revolution and is aligned with multiple Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Affordable & clean energy
  • Industry, innovation & infrastructure
  • Sustainable cities & communities
  • Responsible consumption & production
  • Climate action
  • Good health & well being
  • Quality education
  • Clean water & sanitation
