Building value by decarbonising the built environment

Decarbonising the built environment is crucial for a sustainable future, as it accounts for about a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions. McKinsey’s report highlights effective solutions that are proven and cost-effective, providing immediate value for industry players. By industrialising these solutions and addressing challenges in the ecosystem, emissions from the built environment can potentially be reduced by up to 75% in the next five to ten years. The report identifies 22 levers with strong potential for emissions reduction across various building types and regions. Collaboration, partnerships, and early adoption of decarbonisation solutions can unlock significant value for ecosystem players while driving the transition to a net-zero world.
